Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu released her first episode of her first ever podcast, ‘Take 20’, last week on YouTube where she talked about health issues like autoimmune diseases, myositis, the disease she was diagnosed with last year, and a lot more.
On this podcast she spoke with Alkesh Sharotri, Wellness Coach and Nutritionist about autoimmune disease. Samantha opened up about her health condition in this podcast and recalled having an ‘extremely difficult year’ before she was diagnosed with myositis.
Samantha On Waking Up With Myositis
Talking on her podcast, Samantha said, “I remember specifically the year before I had this problem, it was an extremely difficult year for me. I specifically remember the day that I think my friend/partner/manager Himank, and I were travelling back from Mumbai. And this was in June of the year before last, and I remember telling him that finally I feel calm. I haven’t felt a little relaxed and a little calm in a very, very long time. And I finally feel like I can breathe and I can go to sleep, and I can now wake up and focus on my work and be the best that I can be at work. And I woke up with this condition.”
Samantha On Reason To Do This Podcast
Sharing that she had an harrowing experience battling through her condition, Samantha said, “The reason I wanted to do this podcast was because after the experience, the harrowing experience that I’ve been through and well, an autoimmune condition is lifelong, so with what I’m dealing with right now as well, I’d rather want people to be safe than sorry.”
According to the National Institute of Health, Myositis are rare diseases characterised by inflammation and weakness of the skeletal muscles which can also involve internal organs such as the lungs, heart, and oesophagus. Myositis is a term for rare autoimmune conditions which is related to muscle inflammation.
Autoimmunity
Samantha, on her podcast discussed autoimmune conditions with Alkesh and shared her experiences on fighting the autoimmune condition myositis. But what are autoimmune diseases? A research by National Institute of Health states, “A healthy immune system defends the body against disease and infection. But if the immune system malfunctions, it mistakenly attacks healthy cells, tissues, and organs. Called autoimmune disease, these attacks can affect any part of the body, weakening bodily function and even turning life-threatening.”
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, last year took to instagram to announce that she will take a break from work while revealing her diagnosis of the autoimmune system, myositis, she suffers from. Posting a picture from hospital she wrote, “A few months back I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Myositis. I was hoping to share this after it had gone into remission. But it is taking a little longer than I hoped. I am slowly realising that we don’t always need to put up a strong front. Accepting this vulnerability is something that I am still struggling with. The doctors are confident that I will make a complete recovery very soon.”
